Promise Akwaowo is a UK-based Automation and AI Practitioner whose work spans intelligent automation, digital products, responsible AI and technology-led transformation. His career has developed across logistics technology, financial technology and enterprise automation, with a consistent focus on turning complex operational and user problems into digital systems that can be measured, governed and used reliably in practice.
That progression has taken him from product strategy in African technology companies to enterprise-scale automation in the UK, while his more recent work has extended into responsible AI, research and professional standards. Rather than treating automation and AI as isolated technologies, Akwaowo’s work increasingly centres on how organisations can introduce intelligent systems without losing human judgement, accountability or operational control.

From digital products to intelligent automation
Akwaowo’s product foundations were shaped through work in logistics technology and fintech. At truQ, a Lagos-based logistics technology company, he worked on the company’s transition from consumer logistics towards a B2B platform designed to serve manufacturers, distributors and other corporate customers. His contribution included translating the change in business model into product requirements, enterprise tooling, onboarding improvements and a structured six-stage expansion model for entering new markets.
Foluso Ojo, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of truQ, described Akwaowo as “very fundamental to executing the product vision of truQ and building the suite of enterprise tools now used by businesses, manufacturers, large distributors and FMCGs.” Ojo attributed Akwaowo’s product strategy to the company’s transition towards enterprise use, commercial growth, acceptance into Google for Startups and Techstars, and a subsequent $430,000 seed raise.
The next stage of that product work moved into cross-border fintech at Flitaa, a digital-asset platform serving African markets. Akwaowo worked across customer onboarding, identity verification, payment access and cross-border support, including the integration of BVN and NIN checks into Know Your Customer workflows, restoration of M-PESA access for Kenyan users and redesign of support journeys affecting cross-border transactions.
Great Onomor, Co-Founder of Flitaa/Roqqu, directly attributed measurable product outcomes to Akwaowo’s intervention, including a 40% improvement in onboarding, restored M-PESA access for 20% of active users and a 30% reduction in cross-border support tickets. Onomor said the work across onboarding, KYC, support optimisation and cross-border functionality strengthened the platform “in practical, measurable ways” for both users and the business.
That focus on payment access and customer behaviour later extended into Akwaowo’s published research in the Journal of Business and Digital Innovation. His study examined how mobile payment methods influence customer decisions and conversion on Jumia’s e-commerce platform in Nigeria, connecting commercial product experience with research into digital payment behaviour and customer trust.
Applying Automation and AI at enterprise scale
In the UK, Akwaowo’s recent work at Royal Mail Group has placed that product and delivery experience inside a large-scale operational environment. His contribution has focused on the service-side work required to move automation from an identified business problem into a controlled digital service: defining business rules and exception paths, translating them into buildable requirements, structuring testing and acceptance, coordinating technical and operational teams, and establishing the governance and ownership required before solutions move into live use.
His enterprise automation portfolio has spanned live automation, digital service recovery, process simplification, controlled change, discovery, operational digitisation and emerging AI-enabled validation. This work has reinforced a recurring principle in his practice: a technically functioning automation is not automatically an operationally viable service. Business purpose, data, exceptions, human control, testing, ownership and measurable outcomes all have to be connected.
That principle is increasingly shaping his work with AI-enabled systems. More recently, Akwaowo co-authored the scope and control design for an AI-enabled image-validation workflow, defining human review, escalation paths and testing boundaries before wider deployment. The work reflects his broader interest in using AI to improve decision processes while retaining clear controls for uncertainty, exceptions and accountability.
Responsible AI, research and professional standards
Outside his occupational delivery, Akwaowo has developed a growing body of published work on responsible AI and accountable automation. The British Computer Society and techUK have published his analysis of human oversight, automated decision-making and the governance of increasingly autonomous systems.
In “Responsible AI and automation: the role of professional judgement in accountable systems”, published by the British Computer Society, he examined where human judgement, escalation and accountability should remain within automated decision-making. In “AI Leaves the Screen: Governing the Convergence of Agentic AI and Robotics”, published by techUK, he proposed a five-part governance framework covering decision boundaries, human intervention and override, exception and failure recovery, shared responsibility across software and physical systems, and continuous outcome validation.
His peer-reviewed IEEE/AAIML paper, “Persona-Driven Feedback Agents for High-Stakes Documents: A Multi-Perspective Evaluation of Global Talent Visa Submissions”, evaluates AI-generated feedback through multiple professional perspectives in a high-stakes assessment setting. Together with his earlier research into mobile payments, this work extends his practitioner experience into applied research on how digital and AI-enabled systems influence decisions.
Akwaowo is also a member of the British Standards Institution’s ART/1 Artificial Intelligence committee. The appointment connects his enterprise automation practice and published responsible-AI analysis with formal standards activity, providing another route through which he contributes to discussions about how AI systems should be governed and assessed.
External recognition and peer evaluation
Akwaowo’s external profile has also developed through independent recognition across technology, STEM, leadership and industry evaluation. He is a STEM finalist in the Black British Business Awards 2026, a Digital Ambassador of the Year finalist in the Computing Digital Technology Leaders Awards 2026, and is shortlisted in the Agile Leadership category of the Agility Awards 2026.
His growing profile has also resulted in appointments to assess the work of other professionals. His judging appointments include the Supply Chain Excellence Awards, covering Digital Transformation, Smart Mobility, and Supply Chain Strategy and Design; the UC Awards 2026; and the IIBA Australia and New Zealand 2026 awards programme. He also served as one of 15 judges at Project Hack27, held at the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre in Derby, where he assessed technology-led solutions developed by 24 teams across six challenges.
These appointments are distinct from speaking or publication because they place Akwaowo in a peer-evaluation role: external organisations are asking him not only to explain his own work, but to apply professional judgement to the work, ideas and delivery approaches of others.
What future practitioners should learn
For Akwaowo, the growth of intelligent automation and AI creates opportunities for practitioners who can combine technical understanding with business judgement. He argues that the most durable careers will not be built by learning a single tool, but by understanding how organisations operate, how users experience digital systems and how technology decisions affect risk, accountability and measurable outcomes.
“My advice to anyone trying to build a career in AI, Intelligent Automation or digital products is to start with problems, not technology. Learn how organisations work, understand users, ask good questions and become comfortable turning complex problems into practical solutions.”
He also encourages practitioners to keep building technical depth across automation platforms, data, AI and product development while creating evidence of what they can do through real projects, community contribution, mentoring, published thinking and measurable outcomes.
