Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Purim:
“For millennia, the story of Esther has brought comfort and joy to the Jewish community. It is a story of moral courage and heroism in the face of weaponized hatred aimed at the complete destruction of the Jewish people. It is a chronicle of God’s provision and protection of His people, who rose up to protect themselves against their enemies.
“More than ever, this story of triumph offers a promise of deliverance to the Jewish people. Just as Haman and his hatred was defeated, so today will the people of Israel prevail against Hamas and all those who are trying to extinguish their light.
“As Jewish communities in Canada, Israel and around the world joyfully celebrate Purim, Conservatives are proud to celebrate with you. Together, we honour the many ways in which the Jewish people have endured for generations, fighting against antisemitism and standing up for justice.
“As families gather in synagogues and homes to hear the Megillah, dress in costumes, eat Hamantaschen, and celebrate together, may you be encouraged and heartened by Purim’s message of joyfulness, happiness, freedom and victory.
