A security guard was critically injured Tuesday morning after an attempted robbery at a jewellery store inside Fairview Mall in North York Tuesday morning.
Toronto police Insp. Kristy Smith said officers were called to the mall, which is located at 1800 Sheppard Ave. E. near Don Mills Road, at 10:05 a.m. for reports of a shooting.
Smith said the security guard, a male, was shot after confronting the fleeing suspect. He was taken to a trauma centre with critical injuries. The victim is in stable condition, Smith added.
The male suspect reportedly drove away from the scene in a white van. He was described as wearing a white medical mask, a grey hoodie and pants and a blue baseball hat.
An investigation is underway.
