A senior in Quebec has suffered a significant loss as a result of yet another scam aimed at older adults. Cassandra Schafhausen, an 81-year-old Montreal woman, says she was scammed out of more than $100,000 in a banking phone scam.
Schaffhausen says the fraudulent scheme was “sleek” and sounded “very professional.”
She told Global News she received a call from someone pretending to be the bank informing her that she had been the victim of fraud. The person on the line said the bank needed to collect her cards and pin to cancel the transactions and intervene.
She admitted to Global News that she is upset that she fell for the prank, but she is even more enraged at her bank for the manner in which she claims it is handling the case.
