According to reports, a number of people at the îLESONIQ music festival may have been unknowingly drugged with an unknown substance after being stabbed with a needle. The Montreal police (SPVM) say they have started an investigation. At least six people, according to authorities, reported feeling a sudden, sharp prick on their backs while standing in the crowds at the Parc Jean-Drapeau festival on Aug. 9 and 10. In a statement, Montreal police used the alleged incidents to remind festivalgoers and the general public to remain alert in crowded settings. Some of those affected reported later experiencing symptoms such as dizziness. Police have not confirmed whether the incidents are connected and say it is too early to release additional details. As the investigation continues, they are collaborating with festival organizers and Evenko security personnel, the event’s promoter. After 145 people reported being stabbed with syringes during France’s Fête de la Musique in Paris, leading to the hospitalization of more than a dozen young women, in June, French police made 12 arrests. According to the SPVM, if victims or witnesses haven’t already, they should call 911 or their local police station. People should contact Info-Crime Montréal at 514-393-1133 or use the reporting form on the website infocrimemontreal.ca to report information anonymously. Info-Crime Montréal may offer rewards of up to $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect.
