The search for a young man who fell through the ice of the des Prairies river on Thursday in the West Island of Montreal has been put on hold, according to police. The college student was walking on the river in the l’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough with a friend when the ice gave way beneath their feet, according to Jean-Pierre Brabant. Police divers, officers in boats, and officers on foot have all searched the river and its banks in recent days without locating the 18-year-old who went missing. The 18-year-old was swept away by the current. One of the young men was removed from the river and taken to a hospital; the police stated that his life was not in danger. Brabant says officers might resume the search in the coming days, especially along the river’s banks.
