ALLAH IN THE LIGHT OF QUR’AN

al quran

Allah (ST) used the word hova
(He  for His (ST) self (Surah al-Baqara Verse- 255), and Allah is His attributive name,
and there is nobody worthy of the same name (Surah Maryam Verse-65). Allah (ST) is unique, is eternally besought of all; He begets not’ nor
is He begotten; and there is none like Him, (Surah Ikhlas Verse 1 to 4). Allah (ST) states, ”Allah, the angels and the men of learning
standing firm on justice (infallible) bear witness that there is no deity but He. . . ,” (Surah aal-e-Imran Verse-18) and “If there had been in
them (earth and heavens) any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder . . .” (Surah Anbya Verse-22).
Allah (ST): is the first and the last, the visible (in terms of His power) and the hidden (in terms of His essence); is omniscient, omnipotent

and omnipresent (Surah al-Hadid Verses-2, 3 & 4). Wherever you look you will see the manifestation of Allah [Wajh Allah] (Surah al-
Baqara Verse-115). Allah (ST) has no boundaries (space and time), i.e., He (ST) is imperceptible. Moreover, the words hands and eyes used

for Allah (ST) in the Qur’an (Surah az-Zumar Verse 67 & Hud Verse-37), are metaphorical terms.
It is stated, ”Allah is the light of the Heavens and the Earth, a likeness of His light is as a niche in which is a lamp; the lamp is enclosed in
glass, (and) the glass is as it was a shining star, (this lamp is) lit from oil of a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof
almost gives light though fire touches it not — light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He pleases, Allah sets forth parables for
men, and He is cognizant of all things,” (Surah an-Noor Verse-35); and ”There is no deity besides Allah the Ever-living, the Self-subsisting
by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the Heavens and whatever is in the Earth is His; who is he that
can intercede but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of
His knowledge except what He pleases; His seat (knowledge and power) extends over the Heavens and the Earth, maintaining them tires
Him not and He is the most High, the Great,” (Surah al-Baqara Verse-255). Allah (ST): brings into existence from non-existence, is the
Creator, the Shaper of all forms and appearances, has the most excellent names; is Mighty, Wise and whatever is in the Heavens and the
Earth declares His glory (Surah al-Hashr Verse-24); is the Rub (Creator, Sustainer & Guide) of all beings (Surah al-Fatihaa Verse-2); is the
Sovereign Authority and Deity of mankind (Surah an-Naas Verse-2 & 3); is the Rab of the two easts, and of the two wests! (Surah Rahman
Verse-17); is Rab of all the easts and the wests (Surah al-Ma’aarij Verse-40); is most Gracious and most Merciful (Surah al-Fatihaa Verse-3);
is the Holiest, utmost Bestower of Peace, highest Faith Inspirer, supreme Protector, highly Honourable, the Dominant and is an apex of
greatness (Surah al-Hashr Verse-23); is absolutely Self-sufficient and highly Praiseworthy (Surah al-Baqara Verse-267); is of infinite Bounty
(Surah Al-Jumu’a Verse-4); is Forgiving and Forbearing, All-embracing and All-Knowing (Surah al-Baqara Verse-235 &247); is
omnipotent (Surah aal-e-Imran Verse-26); one day will bring humankind all together (Surah al-Baqara Verse-148); is the Master of the day
of judgment (Surah al-Fatihaa Verse-4). Moreover, Allah (ST) states: ”And if (all) the trees on Earth become pens, and the ocean
supplemented by seven more oceans becomes ink, even then the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Surely, Allah is Almighty, Most
Wise,” (Surah Luqman Verse-27); ”Most blessed is the name of thy Lord, Mighty and Glorious,” (Surah Rahman Verse-78). Furthermore,
Allah (ST) has ordained mercy on Himself (Surah al-An’aam Verse-54).
Allah (ST): created Adam (ES) with His full power (Surah Saad Verse-75); adorned the nearest firmament with the stars (Surah as-Saaffaat
Verse-6); created death and life (Surah al-Mulk Verse-2); created evil (Surah al-Falaq Verse-2); took oath from all the souls of the
descendants of Adam (ES) bearing witness to their self, accepting that He is their Rub so that on the Day of Resurrection they will not be able
to say that they were heedless of Him (Surah al-A’araaf Verse-172); and not to worship Satan (Surah Yaseen Verse-60). Allah (ST) states:
“He created the first humankind from dry clay like the potter’s and the Jinns from smokeless fire,” (Surah Rahman Verse-14 &15); “. . . the
whole Heavenly Universe and the Earth were (all) joined together as one unit, and then We split them apart. And We originated (the life of)
the entire living organism (on Earth) from water. . . ,” (Surah al-Anbiyaa Verse-30); ”Allah is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth, and
when He decrees an affair, He only says to it, Be, so there it is,” (Surah al-Baqara Verse-117); ”Allah created the Heavens and the Earth in
six periods of time, and He is firm in power; He throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly, and (He created) the Sun
and the Moon and the stars, made subservient by His command, His verily is all creation and commandment. and blessed is Allah, the
Sustainer of all beings,” (Surah al-A’araaf Verse-54); ”He (ST) is the one who has spread the Earth wide, made water flow in it . . . and built
high imbedded mountains on it to maintain its balance . . .,” (Surah ar-Ra’ad Verse-3 & an-Nahl Verse-15); ”Glory be to Allah, Who created
in pairs all things that the Earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind and (other) things of which they have no knowledge,” (Surah
Yaseen Verse-36); ”Most surely in the creation of the Heavens and the Earth and the alternation of the night and the day, the arks that run in
the sea and profit men, the water that Allah sends down from the clouds, then gives life with it to the Earth after its death and spreads in it all
(kinds of) animals, and the changing of the winds and the clouds made subservient between the sky and the Earth, there are signs for people
who understand,” (Surah al-Baqara Verse-164); ”. . . He (ST) manifests His glory anew every moment,” (Surah ar-Rahman Verse-29); and
”All that is on Earth will perish but forever shall remain thy Rab, the most exalted in sublimity and generosity,” (Surah ar-Rahman Verse-26
& 27).
Deen of Islam is from Allah (ST) (Surah aal-e-Imran Verse-83). Allah (ST) states, “Allah chooses for Deen whom He pleases (prophet,
messenger or imam), no one has subject authority and Allah is above what they associate with Him,” (Surah al-Qasas Verse-68). Allah (ST)
states, “And remember (Muhammad) when I made a covenant with all the prophets . . .,” (Surah aal-e-Imran Verse-81), i.e., the ranks of
prophet, messenger and imam were given in the spiritual realm.
Allah (ST) states, “. . . surely, whoever associates (others) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden to him the paradise, and his abode is the

fire, and there shall be no helpers for the unjust,” (Surah Maaida Verse-72). Allah (ST): does not guide the unjust (Surah Al-Jumu’a Verse-

Forgiving, Forbearing (Surah al-Baqara Verse 225); destroyed many towns of the sinners as His (ST) wrath was inflicted at night or while the
dwellers slept for afternoon rest. No plea had they when His wrath came unto them, save that they said, ”Lo! We were wrongdoers,” (Surah
al-A’araaf Verses-4 & 5). Moreover, Allah (ST) states, ”Can, then, the people of any community ever feels secure that Our punishment will
not come upon them by night, while they are asleep? Why, can the people of any community ever feel secure that Our punishment will not
come upon them in broad daylight while they are engaged in (worldly) play? Are they then secure from Allah’s plan? None can feel secure
from Allah’s plan except the losers,” (Surah al-A’araaf Verses-79, 98 & 99); and ”What is then the matter with them, that they turn away
from the admonition, as if they were asses fleeing from a lion?” (Surah al-Muddaththir Verses-49 to 51).
Allah (ST): is affectionate to the devoted servants (Surah al-Baqara Verse-207); likes those who turn to Him in repentance and those who

Lord; surely, He is ever Forgiving,” (Surah an-Nisaa Verse-106).
Allah (ST) not only promises to bestow reward increased in bounty but also thanks those who display the apex of loyalty (muwaddat) to the
near of kin (Ahlul Bayt) of Prophet Muhammad (SW) (Surah ash-Shura Verse-23). Allah states, ”And they have not recognized Allah as He
deserves, and the whole Earth shall be in His grip on the day of resurrection and the Heavens rolled up in His right hand; glory be to Him,
and may He be exalted above what they associate (with Him),” (Surah az-Zumar Verse-67.
