The significance of cybersecurity engineers in today’s digital world cannot be overstated, as they protect an organization’s digital infrastructure by designing, building, and implementing secure networks and applications. Their daily work focuses on preventing cyber attacks before they occur, rather than only responding to incidents after they happen.
Numerous female cybersecurity engineers have achieved extraordinary recognition for their contributions to the field. Sonia Rayan GHAIB, a Paris-based cybersecurity engineer with a technical background in network security, penetration testing, and technical auditing, is one such example.
Sonia works with SQUAD Cybersecurity as a Cyber Security Consultant and is also engaged in a mission with FDJ UNITED as a Cyber Security Project Manager.
She is also involved with Article 1 and demain.org, which operate in synergy, where she contributes as a mentor and volunteer supporting young graduates and early-career professionals.
Speaking Engagements
Sonia has established a notable speaking presence, delivering over 100 presentations globally. Her talks focus on cybersecurity awareness, technical security, human risk, digital resilience, and the role of cybersecurity professionals in modern societies.
She is known for translating complex technical topics into accessible insights for diverse audiences, contributing to stronger cybersecurity culture across organizations and institutions worldwide.
Voluntary Activities
Sonia is actively engaged in several organizations focused on education, empowerment, and cybersecurity awareness.
She volunteers with the CyberPeace Institute as a cybersecurity consultant, contributing to initiatives that strengthen digital trust and support humanitarian cybersecurity efforts.
Through her involvement with Article 1 and demain.org, she supports mentoring programs for young graduates and contributes to initiatives centered on education, guidance, and professional inclusion.
She is also a Google Women Techmakers ambassador, contributing to initiatives that promote inclusion and representation in technology.
Through these commitments, she helps promote cybersecurity behaviors across both professional and educational environments.
Cybersecurity Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Sonia is not only a cybersecurity engineer and consultant—she is also a builder and entrepreneur.
Within CyberOrb, she has developed three core solutions: CyberSense, CyberKit, and CyberKid.
Diplomacy, AI, and Strategic Vision
Sonia also brings a strong diplomatic and strategic dimension to her work.
As a Vanguard Founding Diplomatic Fellow, she has developed a three-year strategic blueprint focused on bridging diplomacy, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
This vision explores the intersection of cybersecurity, governance, and emerging technologies, positioning cybersecurity as both a technical and diplomatic field requiring cross-sector collaboration.
A Story of Inspiration and Empowerment
Sonia shared:
“My journey did not start in cybersecurity. It started with law school. At 15, I was the kind of teenager obsessed with hardware, tech, networks, and cybersecurity, while also dreaming about diplomacy, governance, and the National School of Administration (ENA).
After my first Baccalaureate, I chose law school because I genuinely wanted to pursue diplomacy and follow a family legacy that deeply inspired me growing up. But life had other plans. A few months later, reality hit: the diplomatic pathway I was aiming for only opened every five years. I was not ready to gamble years of my life waiting for a door to maybe open. So I did what felt natural.
In 2019, I enrolled at CESI engineering school in France to study networking, cybersecurity, and related disciplines. Today, I work across cybersecurity consulting, project management, public speaking, and network support.
Cybersecurity has never been just a career for me—it is passion, purpose, resilience, and continuous learning. Every challenge, every project, every late night, and every step of this journey has shaped the person I am becoming today.”
Conclusion
Sonia Rayan GHAIB represents a new generation of cybersecurity professionals who combine technical expertise, strategic vision, and global engagement.
Through her work with SQUAD Cybersecurity, her mission at FDJ UNITED, her involvement in Article 1 and demain.org, her speaking engagements, and her entrepreneurial work within CyberOrb, she embodies a multidimensional profile shaping modern cybersecurity practice and awareness.
