Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Nowruz:
“There is always power in the act of coming together to celebrate the coming of a new year. Today, as they carry on the legacy of their ancestors, Persian, Kazakh, Afghan and Tajik communities around the world will gather in homes, town squares, temples and community centres to celebrate Nowruz.
“For many, Nowruz is a time of personal renewal. As the spring equinox passes and the days get longer, we look forward with hope to brighter days ahead. We honour the ways that our friends and families have helped us persevere through the darkness of winter and rejoice in the new life of spring.
“Nowruz is also a time to join with others of various faiths, backgrounds, and ethnicities to take comfort in the timeless traditions of the season. Whether you gather around a haft-seen table or in a yurt, or whether you eagerly await the coming of Amu Nowruz or Kampirak, Nowruz is a time to share the joy of faith and family with all those around you.
“On behalf of Canada’s Common-Sense Conservatives, please accept my best wishes as you celebrate Nowruz. May you be filled with peace, joy and the confidence of a happy year ahead.
“Nowruz Pirouz.”
