Yesterday, after months of community advocacy, PM Mark Carney announced plans to endorse Palestinian statehood, in September.
For months, advocates have worked with the NCCM team to make sure that our leaders live up to real Canadian values.
We are not fully there yet, but yesterday’s announcement warrants a small bit of cautious optimism that we can attain real change sooner rather than later.
The Palestinian right to exist is and remains inalienable. It will never be subject to conditions as a matter of international law.
Soon after, Trump slammed Carney’s announcement around statehood while trying his best to kill Canada’s independent foreign policy and maim the Canadian economy.
Meanwhile, those in Gaza continue to live through genocidal atrocities and a man-made famine.
Canada can and must do more:
- Placing further sanctions on the Netanyahu government.
- Impose a full two-way arms embargo.
- Review the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.
- Help those escaping Gaza reunite with loved ones in Canada.
