Introducing…
NCCM INVESTIGATES—a new investigative video series led by NCCM writer and journalist Steven Zhou.
Each episode, viewable on our YouTube channel, will tackle, investigate, and explain a specific issue centred on Islamophobia and hate in Canada.
We are excited to be presenting to you the inaugural episode of the show, which takes a deep dive into the threat of far-right anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab activism in Canada, primarily in the form of the Jewish Defence League (JDL).
Watch as Steven gives a detailed overview of the “Kahanist” movement driving groups like the JDL as well as the banned Kahane Chai.
From attacking Palestinians overseas, to planning bomb attacks in the United States, to allying with other far-right groups in Canada, Steven goes through a history of the JDL – and how folks linked to the JDL ended up being arrested on an alleged firearms charge after driving a truck displaying Islamophobic sentiments on a truck at the U of T campus.
This is just the beginning for NCCM Investigates.
